My Favorite Kitchen Brand Is Having a Major Sale
I am a creature of habit, which means that I inevitably pick favorites. I have a perennial one-stop shop for jeans and a preferred place to browse for linens. I’ve been wearing the same perfume and most of the same jewelry for years. So it should come as no surprise that I also have a personal seal of approval on a certain kitchen company: Material.
Years ago, when Material first came on the scene, I reviewed their “Iconics” knives and utensils set — or more accurately, I asked my dad to try these tools out with me, since he’s a home chef and has much stronger opinions on the subject. We both loved the set, but I particularly appreciated the stylishly minimal knife block that stored it all: A magnetized wall placed the trio of knives on one side, while a utensil holder corralled tools on the other. That makes the set feel compact yet intentional on a countertop, which is ideal for anyone who notices these things (I blame the day job, of course).
As the brand expanded, so did my collection. The cutting boards are durable, the resting stones double as decor, and the salt sphere is just plain cool. What I like most about Material is that the entire catalog is functional, and nothing is too precious. And as a reliable theme, everything works well while looking good, with a sustainably-made backbone to boot. Who says minimal always has to mean basic?
Material is currently hosting its sixth-annual birthday sale from March 12 to March 21, where you can score up to 25 percent off some of the most beloved products. Psst, this is the biggest sale the brand is having all year, which is why it’s worth a look. Here are a few of my favorites:
The Iconics
This 10-tool set is a cornerstone of my kitchen, from the trio of knives to the whisk, metal spoon, and fish spatula. With this one set, you don’t need more.
The (grippy) reBoard
This cutting board has lil’ silicone stoppers on its four edges, keeping it in place as you work. But the fact that every board is beautiful to look at helps, too.
The reBowl
Sure, this bowl is perfect for mixing. But is it also the perfect size for popcorn, chips, and whatever fruit you have to eat in the next three days or else? Yes.
The Metal Spoon
Since this metal spoon is likely the most popular tool in my kitchen, I’m calling it out for its versatility. It’s the right size for whatever I may be working on, all three meals included. I’ve also thrown it in the dishwasher more times than I can count and it still looks brand new. Am I worried that one day it won’t look brand new? Well, if that happens, I’ll let you know.
The Resting Stone
These resting stones are best used for utensils that are taking a break from stirring, lemons that are finished zesting, and anything else that needs to hang for a sec while you read the next step of a recipe. But I’ve also left these stones out on display, just because.
The Salt Sphere
Say you’re hosting a dinner party and you want your friends to think you have your life together (is there any other reason to host a dinner party?). If this salt sphere is anywhere near your stove, noting that this is how you season food, then you’re bound to make that impression. Even if no one says so out loud.
