When Ann and Scott Gorran left New York City for Indiana during the pandemic, they planned to settle down near her family. But one night out in Chicago changed everything. What started as a dinner date ended with a spontaneous round of house hunting—and a newly renovated Lincoln Park home that felt like a fresh start. “To them, Lincoln Park felt like the West Village, and they fell in love with the home immediately,” says Lauren Buxbaum Gordon, partner at Nate Berkus Associates—the firm founded by Berkus.
Still, its staged interiors didn’t reflect their lives. Through a mutual friend, Ann connected with Buxbaum Gordon to help make it feel like theirs. “The home had mass appeal, but we felt it lacked personality,” Buxbaum Gordon says. “We wanted to give it a distinct perspective.”
