Lauren Perez is a born-and-raised Bahamian—but she never thought she’d live on the island indefinitely. After moving to the States for college and working in London for years following graduate school, she met her husband in Nassau and they started a family. Now they have five boys and no plans to leave. “I feel like we’re a walking Bravo TV series called How to Survive the Perez Five,” she says. “It’s fun, loud, and full of personality.”

As the founding director of Tern Gallery and the creative director at a development company, Perez has an eye for art and an appreciation for history. Her husband, for his part, owns companies in 3D visualization and landscaping—and he’s also a retired DJ. So the property they chose needed to have as much character as the people inside. They found the right fit in Lyford Cay, on the western tip of New Providence Island, surrounded by the calming currents of historic canals. The original owners hired Bahamian architect Anthony Jervis to give the home its British Colonial features, which are shaded by lush greenery that’s grown for 25 years.
